American Woman by The Guess Who
February 09, 2006
Interestingly enough this track was written by a Canadian band after touring the US in the late 60's. It spent three weeks in the Number 1 position on the US charts competing with tracks by the Beatles and The Jackson 5.

Aneta Grzeszykowska & Jan Smaga: Plan
April 25, 2005
"Plan is one of the most significant contemporary art projects to emerge from Poland. Over the course of two years, Aneta Grzeszykowska and Jan Smaga created a series of ten highly unusual photographic prints: each piece documents the entirety of an apartment, including its occupants, from a normally unavailable perspective - from above. Hundreds of individual photographs are processed and merged using computers to produce the finished piece. In his essay on Grzeszykowska and Smaga's work, Marek Krajewski marvels at the "perfection, continuity, and completeness of representation - unimaginable in traditional photography."

Jaques Pepin
April 17, 2005
Jaques Pepin is an amazing chef and a prominent figure at the French Culinary Institute here in New York City. Recently I've seen him on PBS (channel 13 here in New York) a few times. Something unique I've noticed about him is that he tends to eat a lot of his cooking during the show. Emeril, Barefoot Contessa and most other cooking "personalities" generally tend to cook the meal and offer it up to someone else for eating. I'm not saying that Jaques is a better chef but he does seem to actually enjoy the food more than I've seen.

Franz Ferdinand
April 04, 2005
I'm not sure if I've posted this before but I did get into Franz Ferdinand. I like their tunes and the video for Take Me Out is great. This evening I was sitting at home working on a proposal with The History Channel on in the background airing Modern Marvels, World War I Tech (a welcome break from World War II). During the program I heard the narrator mention Franz Ferdinand. Turns out he was an Archduke from Austria, and not a very happy one at that:
"Much has been said about Franz Ferdinand and very little of it good. He has been referred to as a miser, a bigot, and a spoiled child. Shunned by the elite of Viennese society, he was also called "the loneliest man in Vienna". He lacked the two key elements for success in this social scene - charm and elegance."
Interesting bit of history which has worked it's way into pop culture. I still like their tunes though, even though they are named after a spoiled archduke.
Phuture Design Studio Space
March 18, 2005
A lot of friends and family have been asking about my new office/studio space. The word office makes it sound a lot larger than it really is. To combat people believing that I work in a huge skyscraper with a wall of windows overlooking a busy New York City street I've posted some photos of the space.
A few things to note:
- The wood is the floor. It's a very nice floor and I'm quite happy to have wood over carpeting
- The soft looking structure in the corner is Kava's bed
- The windows will be cleaned soon
- The computer screen with the website was going to be used elsewhere but snuck into this collection
- The thing on the wall is called Utensilo and is a pretty famous piece of American Industrial Design dating back to the 60's
Enjoy
Happy New Year!

Tsunami Disaster Relief
December 29, 2004
There are quite a few ways for us to help the countries and people affected by the tsunami disaster in the Indian Ocean. It's hard to put it into perspective but currently the death toll is at 80,000 and these people can really use our help.
- American Red Cross International Response Fund
- AmeriCares South Asia Earthquake Relief Fund
- Direct Relief International International Assistance Fund
- Médecins Sans Frontières International Tsunami Emergency Appeal
- Oxfam Asian Earthquake & Tsunami Fund
- Sarvodaya Relief Fund for Tsunami Tragedy
- UNICEF South Asia Tsunami Relief Efforts

Housing starts fall 13% in November
December 16, 2004
Housing starts fall 13% in November - Dec. 16, 2004: "Housing starts took their biggest tumble in almost 11 years in November, raising worries about the housing market and the strength of home prices in the long run."
This is good news for Asia and I as we plan on buying a house over the next year or so. While interest rates will surely go up with time it's a big concern of ours that the inflated housing costs will cause us to lose money. We would rather purchase a home at a lower cost now and possibly refinance when/if interest rates lower over the life of our mortgage than lose money on the value of the house itself.
Does anyone have any advice on this?
Congratulations Kelvin and Anna!
December 15, 2004
I guess this is coming a little late but I'd like to congratulate Kelvin and Anna on their recent wedding. Not only was it great to see two great friends get married but they put together a great party for everyone else. Good luck and congratulations to them once again.
Janet Jacksons Breast
February 05, 2004
Personally, I don't see what the problem is. I understand that the "wardrobe malfunction" during the Super Bowl may have been too much for middle America to handle but the truth is, women have breasts. We've all seen them. They're there. Why Janet Jackson feels the need to show hers on national television, who knows, but really, what's the big deal. Aren't there other issues the FCC, television networks and press should be focusing on? Why was she at the Super Bowl in the first place? What ever happened to marching bands and cheerleaders?
I guess that my real argument is not in Janet Jackson's breast but her involvement in the Super Bowl at all. If we as a country didn't spend so much time trying to cover up little mistakes and focused our energy on trying to educate and guide our youth maybe her breast-bearing incident wouldn't cause such a stir. Maybe if children were taught that the human body has parts to it, some of which are public and some of which are private, and those private parts should be respected and glorified rather than enlarged and objectified we would be in much better shape.
