My company uses Basecamp for project management. It's a great tool that has really helped us get projects completed more efficiently. Basecode is a neat Firefox extension for it that provides some interesting functionality.

"Mac OS X Tiger delivers 200+ new features which make it easier than ever to find, access and enjoy everything on your computer."
The feature I'm looking forward to most in Tiger is Dashboard. How about you?

Last year I subscribed to Design In Flight, a quarterly magazine published in PDF form and delivered online. When I first subscribed I did so after reading about the launch of the magazine on a website somewhere. I downloaded the first issue and flipped through it quickly but didn't pay much attention. The most recent issue, April 2005 came out a couple of weeks ago and I paid a little closer attention to it this time.
The magazine is great. Very insightful articles written by smart individuals on topics ranging from marketing, color selection, design, CSS, XHTML and the creative culture. I printed out all (4) of the back issues (actually, my wife printed them at work on a nice, fast, color laser printer) and read them cover to cover. They are laid out very well and are quite easy to read. I prefer reading the printouts as on-screen reading tends to bother my eyes.
Be sure to check them out as a $12 annual subscription fee is a mere pittance for this valuable resource.

My friend Jason runs a photoblog, Digital Nap and has recently relaunched the site. He takes great photos of the tri-state area and is happier when his site's design is less than a few months old.
Great look Jay, although you should have waited for CSS Reboot 2005!

I used to frequently read the Information Architecture website Boxes and Arrows. The last published piece of content on their site is dated February 27, 2005. I know their were planning a redesign but does anyone know when their new site will launch? Are they gone for good? I sure hope not as they were a great resource.

Whoa. This is huge news for anyone involved in the creative or publishing industry. These two giants make the software that creative professionals use, and now they're becoming one.

Jaques Pepin is an amazing chef and a prominent figure at the French Culinary Institute here in New York City. Recently I've seen him on PBS (channel 13 here in New York) a few times. Something unique I've noticed about him is that he tends to eat a lot of his cooking during the show. Emeril, Barefoot Contessa and most other cooking "personalities" generally tend to cook the meal and offer it up to someone else for eating. I'm not saying that Jaques is a better chef but he does seem to actually enjoy the food more than I've seen.

I updated to Mac OS 10.3.9 today which includes Safari 1.3 (v312) and noticed quite a few changes in Safari's behavior. First there is an improvement in HTML rendering as a page I frequent which uses a position:absolute div now renders properly. Another change I noticed isn't as helpful. The quick-keys for View Source have changed from Command+Option+V to Command+Option+U which will take a bit of getting used to.
NOTE: I updated this article to reflect the correct Safari version number as the one previously posted was part of Mac OS 10.3.8.

Over the past day or two I've had quite a few failed .Mac syncs from iSync. I could be wrong but it could be due to Apple preparing the .Mac servers for OS 10.4 and it's new sync services. OS 10.4, or Tiger, is scheduled to ship by the end of April according to many rumor sites. Apple sticks to it's guns saying the first half of 2005.

I'm not sure if I've posted this before but I did get into Franz Ferdinand. I like their tunes and the video for Take Me Out is great. This evening I was sitting at home working on a proposal with The History Channel on in the background airing Modern Marvels, World War I Tech (a welcome break from World War II). During the program I heard the narrator mention Franz Ferdinand. Turns out he was an Archduke from Austria, and not a very happy one at that:
"Much has been said about Franz Ferdinand and very little of it good. He has been referred to as a miser, a bigot, and a spoiled child. Shunned by the elite of Viennese society, he was also called "the loneliest man in Vienna". He lacked the two key elements for success in this social scene - charm and elegance."
Interesting bit of history which has worked it's way into pop culture. I still like their tunes though, even though they are named after a spoiled archduke.

A lot of friends and family have been asking about my new office/studio space. The word office makes it sound a lot larger than it really is. To combat people believing that I work in a huge skyscraper with a wall of windows overlooking a busy New York City street I've posted some photos of the space.
A few things to note:
Enjoy

I got the Cingular 650 on February 2nd and have been frustrated since I opened the box. Outside of the confusion regarding dataplans and DUN mine simply continually failed when connecting to and syncing with my IMAP email using Versamail. For $450 I'm simply not convinced that the phone was production stable and therefore returned it. It may not have helped that I use a Mac and was unhappy with the sync situation (the Palm contact management application is far inferrior to the Apple OS X Address Book) and am also very much a power user when it comes to email.
Just one persons opinion and I know that many of you are very happy with your Treo 650's. I just cannot justify it. Maybe things will get better when/if Tiger iSync is more flexible and Palm fixes the Versamail issues.

Asia and I just got back from a great long weekend in Stratton, Vermont with some amazing conditions for snowboarding. It was bright and sunny and the snow was soft, perfect for riding. One the way home we drove through New Hampshire to visit Uncle Bill, Aunt Audrey and William. William is so cute that it's insane. More photos will be posted soon.

To all of my friends and family as well as anyone else reading this, a very happy Chinese New Year. It's the year of the rooster and will hopefully be a great one.
